Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit Storybook Figures • New Additions

Image
We carry few collectibles in the shop, but one that we always search out are the wonderfully cute character figurines from the Beatrix Potter Storybook collection. We recently acquired a dozen or so additions to our selection. Peruse a few of them below: The Amiable Guinea-Pig Mrs. Rabbit with Two Babies Jeremy Fisher and his Buddy Mr. Jackson (below) Mr. Jackson Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail   These are all available online and in the shop.

The Make-It Book - Things to Do for Children

Image
Not only i s this a great children's book with great graphic images, but it al so has a boatload of craft projects for kids and kids-at-heart. The Make-It Book- Things to do with Scissors and Paste and Odds and Ends by Rachel Taft Dixon and Marjorie Hartwell. This wonderful book was published back in 1928, yet the craft projects are as relevant today as they were then.  The projects include paper folding, paper dolls, doll houses, masks, kites, things made from corks and clothespins, walnut shells and twigs. I have copied below a couple of clothespin projects. Pretty cute! Try them .  Click on the image to see a larger size.

Vintage Photographs ... and the stories behind them

Image
Old photographic images intrigue me. It is amazing that so many of them are still around. Most of the images are still crisp and clear, though many are faded or have taken on sepia tones. But that's OK with me. Just makes them look old. In doing my family history (an undertaking that can be fully consuming of time and emotions) I have found relatives who ha ve literally boxes of old pictures of our family. Tiny ones, torn ones, faded ones, unknown ones! It's like solving mysteries. In the shop we have hundre ds of old photographic images ... cabinet photos, carte de visites (CDV), tintypes, portraits, action shots and more. Just like with my own family photos, I get excited when I find writing on the photo. Sometimes it's a name. Sometimes it's a story. Sometimes just a date. Along with clues in the images like cars, signs, fashion and such, these help co nnect other photos , other people and other times together. Here are some recently acquired ph otos alo...

Sad Love Story: Fill in the Blanks

Image
I came across this post on foundmagazine.com . I just had to share it with you. Fill in the blanks and make your own Sad Love Stry ... or maybe a Happy One! Found Magazine captioned this little ditty an "enigma": FOUND by Liz in Detroit, Michigan A typewritten, fill-in-the-blank enigma. Who wrote it? What for? Why a big church wedding? What does the last sentence mean?? How long has it been since you’ve thought of the word “daffy?”

It's Vintages' 10th Anniversary!!!

Image
It's hard to believe it, but we are celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Vintages this month! We opened Vintages of Los Gatos in April of 2003. S usan and I wanted to combined our diverse strengths with a common love of art and antiques to create a shop unlike any other. We took one part of antiques and mixed it with hand crafted art and distinctive gift s. That's how we envisioned Vintages ... and we think that's how we have made it successful.     Celebrating 10 Years in Los Gatos In the first couple of years we offered antiques, gifts and home decor. Over time, we realized that there was a need for unique crafting supplies and accessories, so that became a growth area for us. In the past several years we have also added a lot of handcrafted , Made-in-America items. So that Vintages today is quite different than it was ten years ago. Instead of antiques, gifts and home decor , we now have antiques, gifts and crafts . We h...
