With Christmas around the corner, you need to pull out the decorations. Have you set up your nativity? or maybe you create a winter village for the Holidays. Well we have nativities ... see here ... and a small collection of vintage Putz Houses and a large selection of hand decorated brush trees. The vintage houses ... and a couple of churches ... are the old cardboard types ... marked simply "Japan" on the bottom indicating 1930s or earlier! Our limited supply is available in the shop with prices ranging from $12 - $24 each. The bottle brush Christmas trees are all created by Susan. She bleaches them, dyes them and hand decorates them. Every one is different ... and every one is sparkly! These range from tiny 1-1/2 inch trees to 4 inches and larger (priced from $3 to $16 each). Antiquarian books ... a fancy term for "old books" ... are actually a very versatile item.  Being ephemera, they have all the tactile and visual qualities of old paper, but they can be more. Certain titles and printings are collectible in their own right ... we have some of those. Others, when damaged or plentiful, can be the source of intriguing ephemera for artists ... collages, mixed-media, scrapbooking, altered art, etc. Interior decorators love these old tomes, especially larger leather bound copies and good-looking sets ... all of which look great on bookshelves, desks, side-boards and such. Of course, some of these make for a wonderful read ... classics, historical perspectives and just plain interesting stories from long ago. These are super little pewter pin dishes, ornaments and toothpick/match holders made in Canada. The little pin dishes all have little sentiments on them and come in colorful boxes, each with a pewter decoration. Hearts, Fleur d'lys, Love You, Dream a Little Dream, Best Mom Ever . Beautiful. Earlier this year we saw this display at one of out vendors' showrooms. It was so great, we thought we would re-create it here in Vintages. It is an easy project ... just use pushpins to hold up the ornaments! We used vintage glass ornaments (and we have lots of these at $2.00 each). Then we topped this with a wonderful starburst mirror ($15.50 in stock at Vintages). The sparkling garland was an afterthought that just looked fantastic. Try it! Whether you use old or new ornaments does not matter. Do it your way. Add in handmade ornaments and cards from family and friends ... use large or small ornaments or a mixture of sizes ... add lights to make it sparkle even more ... you can even paint it on the wall like the inspiration display. There is no right or wrong ... just what you like.

We put together this clever chandelier to show off special Holiday ornaments. The hanging lamp is made from an old lamp shade that we stripped off the covering from. Then we used a lamp kit that you can get from your local hardware store. Easy. For the Holidays we have trimmed it in a silver garland and then hung some beautiful ornaments from it. Cool! Try it. If you don't think of yourself as handy, we do have a couple of the lamps available ... and of course, we have many lovely ornaments in the shop.
