Mother's Day is Sunday May 10th

Image
We all have many reasons to celebrate our Mothers every day of the year ... but May 10th will be that special day we set aside every year just for our Moms. The modern American holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother in Grafton, West Virginia. Her campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her beloved mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Anna’s mission was to honor her own mother by continuing work she started as a peace activist in the Civil War and to set aside a day to honor all mothers, "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world.” Due to the campaign efforts of Anna Jarvis, several states officially recognized Mother's Day, the first in 1910 being West Virginia, Jarvis’ home state. In 1914 Woodrow Wilson signed the proclamation creating Mother’s Day, the second Sunday in May, as a national holiday t...

Boots Ravens Designs ... NEW at Vintages

Image
Kelly Matthews is the art and soul of Boots Ravens Designs. Her artistic journey began about eight years ago with a great yearning to create special things with her hands. The Boots Ravens style has morphed and evolved over the years, but the joy in creating has only grown deeper for Kelly. Her pieces are created using sustainable products, an array of metals, colorful beads and hypo-allergenic components. She says: “I find vast joy in the process of creation, envisioning each piece of jewelry as a piece of mini art.” Boots Ravens creations are solely created by Kelly in her studio overlooking Butte Creek here in Northern California. Her “artistic endeavors are rewarded by the hawks that fly by, the sound of the creek, the ever changing colors and the continued support of my wonderful friends, family, and customers!” Well, we love her creations too … and now have a selection of them available here at Vintages. Earrings and necklaces made w...

Rifle Packin' Mama!

Don't mess with this lady! I just had to share this photo. She's ready for hunting ... with her shotgun, ammo sash and hunting dogs. This is probably early 1900s vintage. Great photo ... I'll share more from time-to-time.

Lon Simmons RIP and Opening Day at Candlestick 1960

Image
Lon Simmons was an icon of Bay Area Sports. His voice has been missed since he retired in 2002 ... now HE will be missed. RIP Legendary broadcaster for the San Francisco Giants, Oakland Athletics and San Francisco 49ers A close friend of ours, Shirlie Montgomery , who passed away in November 2012, was a huge Giants fan. She had numerous Giants mementos, bobble heads and stuff. She adored Barry Bonds! She had met little Barry when he was just a child, so she felt a connection to him. She attended Giants games from their very start in San Francisco when they played at Seals Stadium. She had met Simmons at some point and often commented about what a gentleman he was ... but she never forgave him for jumping over to announce the A's games ... obviously she was a Giants fan all the way. The ever persistent photographer, Shirlie filmed this silent footage on the Giants' opening day at Candlestick Park, April 12, 1960, when the Giants beat the Cardinal...

Introducing two new products at Vintages. These are paints from Tattered Angels … their newest paint is a chalk or milk paint that is truly special, while the other is a wonderful highlighting paint. Both are new to us … and both are in stock.
